A tiered, white building with red roofs. It is damaged, leaning to the side and one corner is missing.

On August 29th, 2005, Hurricane Katrina damaged the lighthouse beyond repair and the remains had to be salvaged for later reconstruction. Following years of fundraising and planning, the Lake Pontchartrain Basin Foundation opened the New Canal Lighthouse Museum and Education Center in 2013.
