"Lee Acclaimed at UDC Session"

On Lee's birthday, January 19, 1954, the United Daughters of the Confederacy (UDC) in New Orleans had a luncheon to celebrate “their beloved general.” The article describes that New Orleans Monument Commissioner Victor Shiro “…urged the Daughters to keep alive the traditions of the Southland so that New Orleans may never become merely a city of stone and mortar.” The commissioner goes on explain the restoration of Lee Circle and expressed pride in “keeping alive one of the city’s greatest traditions. It’s reverence to Robert E. Lee.”
